Ruth B. (Hykes) Pittman Adams, 89, of Butternut Lane, Chambersburg, passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at Manor Care Health Services of Chambersburg. She was born on May 19, 1918 in Greencastle to Amos and Orpha (Meyers) Hykes. Ruth is survived by her 5 children: Gerald (husband of Nancy) Pittman, Tom Pittman, Edna Williams (wife of Lloyd Williams Jr.), Bill Pittman (and long time companion, Brenda Jones), and Phyllis (wife of Tony) Bowman, all of Chambersburg; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. The last of her family, she was preceded in death by one son, Merle Roy Pittman; 4 brothers, Amos, Jessie, Jacob and Jerome Hykes; 6 sisters: Susan Beaver, Katherine Leidig, Laura Peiffer, Mary Kennedy, Orpha Egolf and Beulah Snyder; 3 infant brothers and her 2 husbands. Ruth retired from the former Stanley Clothing Company in Chambersburg. She enjoyed playing cards, reading her Bible, singing and going to church. Whether Ruth knew you as family, a friend, or a stranger, she affectionately referred to everyone as "sweetie." A memorial service for Ruth will be held at 6 PM on Monday, November 19th at The Body of Christ Church, 4847 Lincoln Way West, St. Thomas, Pa. (behind Brandt Motors). Pastor Aletha Painter will officiate. Private graveside services will be held in Pine Grove Cemetery, Mercersburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the church at the above address: Manor Care Health Services, 1070 Stouffer Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201; or to Heartland Home Health and Hospice Services, 2260 Spring Rd.
