    "Funeral services for Mrs Sophia Greenwalt were held Thursday, Dec 30, at 1:30 p.m. from the Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Ritzville, with the Rev Roy Johnson, Lind, officiating. Mrs Greenwalt died at the age of 87 on Sunday, Dec 26, at the Adams County Memorial Hospital. She had been a resident at Hillcrest Manor for several months. The last 8 days of her life were confined to the hospital. Born Sophia Trautman, the daughter of Mr and Mrs Pete Trautman, in Worms, South Russia, Aug 19, 1878, she was married to John Greenwalt June 6, 1906 at the Menno Church in which area they farmed, until their retirement in 1941, to Ritzville. Mr Greenwalt died July 26, 1943. She is survived by two sons, John and Pete, of Ritzville; two daughters, Mrs Yetta Melcher, Odessa, Mrs Emma Bischoff, Ritzville; three brothers, George Trautman of Warden, Adam of Yakima, Jake Trautman of Warden; one sister, Alvina Roth of Fairfield Good Samaritan Home survives as do 13 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren. One son, Arthur, preceded her in death in 1940. She was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Ritzville. Pallbearers were grandchildren of the deceased and were Ronald Greenwalt, Raymond Greenwalt, Dennis Greenwalt, Arthur Greenwalt, Gordon Melcher, Norman Melcher, Norman Bischoff.     (scrapbook item) "John Greenwalt Jr of Ritzville, born Feb 15, 1908 on the farm owned by his parents, John Sr and Sophia (Trautmann) Greenwalt, died April 3, 1991. Baptized as an infant by Pastor Essig, Mr Greenwalt was confirmed in the Lutheran faith March 23, 1923 by Rev Hy Brockmann. He helped his father on the farm as a youth, worked in the apple orchards when farm work allowed him to, and then took over full management of the family farm in June, 1941. That same month, he was married to Esther Winter by Pastor B W Schuldheisz in Menno (rural Odessa). He moved to Ritzville in 1976, but continued his farming operations until 1988.l Mr Greenwalt was a member of Zion-Emmanuel Lutheran Church, serving there as head usher for many years. He is survived.. He was preceded in death by his father in 1943, his mother in 1966, and by two brothers, one as an infant and Arthur in 1940.. Casket bearers included Gordon Melcher, Norman Bischoff, Ron Greenwalt, Terry Fode, Dale Winter and Alton Leisle, and honorary bearers were Larry Winter, Doug Winter, Steve Schafer and art Greenwalt."

    "Yetta Melcher, 94, formerly of Odessa, died Monday, June 21, 2004, at Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake. She was born July 28, 1909, in Odessa, the daughter of John and Sophia (Trautman) Greenwalt. She attended country school before marrying Carl R Melcher on Oct 10, 1937 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Menno. Together they made their home and raised their family on the family farm located 23 miles southwest of Odessa. They moved from the farm to Moses Lake in 1999. They were active in the Zion-Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Odessa. Yetta's husband Carl preceded her in death a week ago, on June 14. She is survived by a daughter, Alice Kanzler, and husband Gilbert, of Ritzville; a son, Gorden Melcher and wife Alice of Moses Lake; 5 grandchildren, Jeffrey and Rodney Melcher, Lisa Hays, Kim Holt and Treasa Lebsack; 5 great grandchildren, Nathan and Alexis Melcher, Emilee and Ben Holt and Trista Lebsack; and a sister Emma Bischoff of Ritzville. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 25, at 11 a.m. at Zion Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Odessa, with the Rev Donald G Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Odessa Cemetery.     BISCHOFF, Emma (Age 95)
    Was born December 28, 1912 and died July 6, 2008 at EARH in Ritzville. Emma was born at Batum, WA to John and Sophia (Trautman) Greenwalt. She went through grades one to six at the Ferderer Corner. They walked two and one quarter miles each way to school, until the horses were not used for farming. Then they rode the horses or used the sleigh lined with hot bricks to school. She met the love of her life, Emil Bischoff, and was married on April 12, 1933. In 1935 Norman was born and in 1936 Loretta (Bischoff) Knoll was born. They farmed 12 miles south of Lind from 1933 until November of 1959 when Norman and Patti were married. They took over the ranch, and Emma and Emil moved to Ritzville to the house Emil built. Emma was active in the Hospital Auxiliary, Faith-Hope Circle and Quilting Queens. She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church. She was a wonderful and caring mother; her love was for embroidery, crocheting, cooking, and gardening; raising her children in the Christian faith and loving her grandchildren with great passion. She was a hard working woman and loved the Lord. Those preceding her in death are parents John and Sophia; brothers: John, Pete and Art; sister Yetta Melcher and son Norman. Survivors include daughter Loretta Knoll, sister-in-law Esther Greenwalt and daughter-in-law Patti Bischoff, 11 nieces and nephews, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday, July 10, 2008 from 12:00 noon to 5 PM at the funeral home and prior to the Funeral Service Friday, July 11, 2008 at Emanuel Lutheran Church-Ritzville at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Ritzville. DANEKAS FUNERAL HOME-RITZVILLE is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions are suggested to Emanuel Lutheran Church, 206 S Division, Ritzville, WA 99169.

    "Funeral services for Peter G 'Pete' Greenwalt were held last Friday at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Ritzville. Mr Greenwalt, who was 78 years old, was born and raised on the family farm south of Odessa. He attended rural schools in the area. He established a towing service in Ritzville in 1940. Later he began Pete's Garage, a repair and towing business. The garage was destroyed by fire in 1949, but was rebuilt, and in 1965 the business became the Chrysler distributorship in Ritzville. He continued to operate Pete's Garage until retiring in 1976. His two sons, Ron and Ray, took over the business. Mr Greenwalt married Lydia A Leisle in 1945. He was a WW II Army veteran. He was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Art Greenwalt, in 1940, and John Greenwalt in 1991. He is survived by his wife, at the home in Ritzville, two daughters, Diane Peltier, of Denver; and Nancy Skeman, of Spokane; three sons, Larry Greenwalt, of Harrington, and Ronald Greenwalt and Raymond Greenwalt, both of Ritzville; two sisters, Yetta Melcher of Odessa; and Emma Bischoff, of Ritzville; and six grandchildren."     Funeral Held For Arthur Greenwalt Young Farmer Is Accident Victim Funeral services for Arthur Greenwalt, 23, farmer who was killed instantly in a tragic accident on the Emil Bischoff farm 10 miles northwest of Lind last Friday, were held at the Menno Lutheran church Monday afternoon.
    Mr. Greenwalt was decapitated and his body badly cut when he was run over by a wheatland plow, which is a group of large sharp discs placed parallel and weighing 3,000 pounds, as it dropped down a sharp decline, and that it ran over him.
    The team of mules pulling the plow stopped a short distance away, leading neighbors to investigate and discover the accident. Dr. Forrest Tomlinson was called from Lind and the body was taken to the Precht funeral home in Lind.
    Besides his widow, Mr. Greenwalt is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Greenwalt, who farm near the scene of the accident, a brother and several sisters.

    Viewing for Norman E. Bischoff, 68, will be today from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville, Wash. Graveside service will be Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. at Lind Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Good Hope Lutheran Church in Lind.
    Mr. Bischoff was a lifelong resident of Lind. He died Saturday.
    He was born on the family farm near Lind and graduated from Lind High School in 1953. He attended Kinman Business College for two years, receiving a degree in accounting.
    Mr. Bischoff served in the Army from 1957 to 1959. He married L. Patricia Gross in 1959, and they farmed together until his retirement in 1997.
    Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Suzi Fode of Moses Lake; a son, Jim Bischoff of Kennewick; his mother, Emma Bischoff, and a sister, Loretta Knoll, both of Ritzville; and three grandchildren.
