Kathleen Emily Potteiger Tice, resident of Annapolis for over 40 years, died peacefully on Thursday August 5, 2010, at Anne Arundel Medical Center. She was born on December 2, 1925, to Jacob and Lydia Potteiger in Aurora, Illinois. She was the youngest of five. Kathy graduated from Miami University of Ohio and received a Master's Degree in Library Science at The University of Maryland. As a professional librarian for Anne Arundel County, she was devoted to the cause of adult literacy and literacy outreach. She earned national recognition for her leadership in establishing literacy programs in Maryland prisons when she received the National Literacy Honors Award. She was an accomplished golfer, bridge player, and served as president of Annapolis Antique Arts. Kathy loved adventure. She lived and traveled all over the world with the love of her life, Navy Commander J. Phillip Tice, who died in 1999. Lover of music and musicians, arts and artists, figs and perfect pears, bluebirds and white deer, she illuminated the lives of everyone who knew her. Kathleen was a very best friend to her children and grandchildren who adored her for her humor, wit, devotion and unending loyalty.
She will be deeply missed by three children and their spouses, her eight grandchildren and one sisters.
Funeral services and reception will be held on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, 611 Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard, Severna Park, MD 21146. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oxfam Haiti Relief Fund, Hospice of the Chesapeake, or the J Phillip and Kathleen E. Tice Literary Scholarship, Ohio University, Athens, Ohio.
