      Florence Marie Rhoe was born Feb 26, 1914 at Muskogee, Okla., to Oscar L and Maude Nita (Lanz) Rhoe and died March 8, 2006, at the Jewell County Hospital Long Term Care, Mankato, Kan., at the age of 92 years and 12 days.
      Florence and her family moved to the Burr Oak area when she was 1 1/2 years of age and she lived all the rest of her life in the Burr Oak area. She attended Rural Jewell County Schools through the eighth grade.
      In 1932 Florence's mother died, leaving Florence, at the age of 18 to look after her father and six younger siblings. This was during the Great Depression and the terrible dust storms of the "Dirty 30's". The family subsisted in large parts on small game;, i.e. rabbits, squirrels, pheasants, home grown corn, vegetables and an occasional hog- - butchered and consumed at home
      Florence met and married Walter J Karnatz on March 20, 1935 in Jewell
      County, Kansas. Walter died in 1955, and Florence married Roy Headley Jan 6, 1958, Roy died on July 4, 1969.
      The three older brothers, Howard, Carroll and Ocia, served in the Army during World War II. All returned without wounds but the broken health from malaria and jaundice They died within a few months of each other in 1976 and 1977 Sister Louise died in 1971 at the age of 43. Sister, Betty Darbe, now 80, is in poor health and lives with her daughter. (She regrets not being able to attend on this occasion). Brother Ralph, served 25 years in the U S Air Force and now resides with his wife, Marlene, In Layton, Utah. The family would like to give a special thanks to Tammy Storey, a special friend from Burr Oak, Kansas.
      It was largely through the efforts of Florence that the three younger siblings, completed high school and some post secondary schooling.
      Florence worked at several trades: switch board operator, custodian, wallpaper hanger, seamstress, quilter, homemaker and farmer's wife, Florence was a member of the United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary, both of Burr Oak.
      A celebration of life service for Florence Marie (Rhoe) Karnatz Headley was Monday, March 13, 2006 at 10:30 a.m., with Pastor Laura Fricker officiating. Music was provided by Diana Dethloff, organist, and Wayne Fogo, soloist.
      Casket bearers were Henry Kramp, Douglas Pair, Robert Johnson, Rod Zeigler, Steve Cosand and Morris Hillman. Honorary casketbearers were Alan Lewis, Roger Zeigler, Dennis Roesti, Joe Rhoe, Anthony Rhoe and Raymond Headley.
      Interment was in the Burr Oak Cemetery, beside her husband, Walter Karnatz, Burr Oak, Kansas. The family suggests memorials to Solomon Valley Hospice, 310 W 8th Street Beloit, KS 67420 Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas was in charge of arrangements.
      1 Timothy 6:11 and 12 - But thou O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness; godliness, faith love, patience, meekness.
      Fight the good life of faith, lay hold on eternal live...and grant eternal rest unto his servant Florence.
