Ashley, ND – Funeral service for Adolph D. Rueb, 71, of Ashley will be 10:30 am, Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church. The Rev. Mike Maroney will officiate.
Burial in Ashley City Cemetery.
There will be a prayer service Friday at 7 pm, with visitation from 3-7 pm at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
He died Monday, November 22, 2010 at the Ashley Medical Center.
Adolph D. Rueb, son of Rev. George H. and Alma (Sayler) Rueb was born May 20, 1939 in his parents' home in Wishek, ND. The family moved to Streeter and later to Medina. In 1955, the family moved to Ashley where he graduated from Ashley High School with the class of 1957. Adolph worked for Ted Maier on his farm for several years.
He was united in marriage to Dorene Eszlinger on October 9, 1959 in Bethel Assembly of God Church in Ashley. In 1961, he began working at Ashley Super Valu and on May 9, 1966, Adolph and Dorene purchased the grocery store.
Adolph enjoyed his daily meeting with his coffee friends. As a hobby, he liked to farm. His eyes always lit up when his grandchildren were with him and the time he spent with them was very special to Adolph.
He was a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church where he served on various boards and held offices. He was an original member of Ashley Ambulance Squad and a past volunteer Fireman. He had served on the Ashley Medical Center Board where he had served as President. He was active with the Ashley Community Quartet for many years and was a charter member of Opportunities, Inc. He was a member of the Super Valu Advisory Board. Also, a member of the Chamber of Commerce where he served on the 1988 Centennial Committee.
Survivors include his wife, two sons, Kirk (Terri) Rueb of Ashley and Byron (Kim) Rueb of Fargo, one brother, Rev. David (Rita) Rueb of Buchanan, Michigan, one sister, Ruthie (Leo) Vilhauer of Leola, SD and five grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, A.J., Rachel and Tucker. His parents preceded him in death.
Honorary Casketbearers will be all Super Valu Employees Current and Past.
Casketbearers will be Tim Rueb, Hardy Rueb, Lyle Eszlinger, Greg Eszlinger, Deon Vilhauer, Debbie Heyd, Kevin Kirschenmann, Kolin Kirschenmann and Korey Kirschenmann.

William Sayler, 80, Jamestown, died Nov. 23, at the Dakota Hospital in Fargo.
Mr. Sayler was born June 14, 1890, at the family farm seven miles northwest of Wishek in Logan County. On Feb. 10, 1913 he and Barbara Ackerman were married at Wishek. They began farming 8½ miles northwest of Wishek.
Following the death of his wife in 1937, he continued to reside on the farm until 1941, when he moved to a farm 3½ miles west of Streeter. In 1942 he moved into Jamestown where he and Pauline Handel were married in the fall of 1943, and where they continued to resided.
Surviving are his wife, seven children, Leo Edwin, Beulah; Albert B., Wishek; Mrs. George Rueb, Ashley; Mrs. James Baldock, Hatton; Mrs. Emil Entzminger, and Mrs. harold Vilhauer, both of Fargo; Mrs. Erich Frank, Windham, Ohio; 36 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; one sister Margaret, Mrs. Emil Schumacher, Gobels, Mich.; his stepmother, Mrs. Christina (Werner) Sayler, Wishek; three half-brothers and three half-sisters, Henry Sayler, Fred Sayler, Mrs. Fred Ackerman, and Mrs. Martha Ackerman, all of Wishek; Christ Sayler, Calloway, Minn.; Mrs. Albert Klein, Downey, Calif.
The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 27, at the Assembly of God Church in Jamestown with Rev. George officiating.

Information from Friedrich Sayler book by Rueb and Steinert called "Saylers, Germany, to Russia to America from 1777 to 1981" In this book his birth date is given as May 13, 1860, but his actual birth date taken from the Johannestal Church Records is Apr 30 1860. His baptism from the church records is May 3, 1860. Friedrich's birth date may have been interchanged with his baptismal date.
Information from 1948 Wishek, ND Book ( Spirit of Wishek) Page 87. Looking for better land, Friedrich Sayler and his wife Barbara Ganzle and their three children left Neuzats, South Russia and come to Menno, SD where they remained eight days. While there they purchased 2 horses, 2 oxen, 2 cows, a wagon and a plow, which they shipped to Eureka by train. The remainder of the trip was made by wagon to the place where the farm is now located six miles NW of Wishek. they brought lumber along for a roof for a sod house and also some kitchen equipment. He was here four years when his wife died, leaving him with five small children, the oldest being 10 years of age and the youngest less than a day old. Friedrich married a second time to Christina Werner and they had nine children.
The marriage record of Friedrich and Barbara Gaenzle is found in the St. Petersburg, russia records for the Rohrbach Parish on LDS Microiflm # 1895615/2 Pg 883, Reg 7. They were married in Worms.

Twelve days of Friedrich SAYLER's birth date discrepancy can be attributed to the fact that the Russian Empire did NOT adopt the "Gregorian Calendar" until February 1918. Therefore, prior to this date by utilizing the "Julian Calendar" their entire populace was recording birth, death and marriage dates that were 10 to 13 calendar days behind the dates of what the majority of the world was recording.

Frederick SAYLER, in the year 1883, married Barbara GAENZLE, born in the year 1862. They had six children prior to coming to America, Peter died in infancy and was buried in South Russia.
Barbara, Katharina, Jacob, Friedrich and Karolina immigrated to America with their parents in 1889. The Frederick SAYLER family left their parents, brothers, sisters, and friends in search of a land that offered freedom of religion. Therefore they left Neusatz, Beresan, Odessa, South Russia and journeyed to Menno, Hutchinson County, South Dakota where they remained eight days. While there they purchased two horses, two oxen, two cows, a wagon and a plow, which were shipped to Eureka, South Dakota by train.
The remainder of their trip was made by wagon to Eureka to pick up their belongings. They proceeded to the land they homesteaded, which was located six miles northwest of Wishek in Logan County, Township 133, Range 71, ¼ of Section 32, school district Johannesdale. They also brought some kitchen equipment and lumber at Menno for the roof of their sod house.
The children born in North Dakota were William and Margret. Barbara (Gaenzle) SAYLER died due to childbirth complications at 31 years of age on December 7, 1893. They were only in America four years when she died, leaving Friedrich with five small children, the oldest being nine and the youngest less than a day old. The death certificate at the state capital recorded her burial place as Johannesdale Township, Section 28, NE ¼.
To combat very long and cold winters they used dried manure for fuel for their stove. The stove itself was built of stone and mud. The crops were poor and all the planting was done by hand. Plowing was done with a hand plow pulled by a pair of oxen. Prairie fires were not unusual and often destroyed the fodder for the cattle.
Frederick SAYLER remarried on January 12, 1894 to Christina WERNER, daughter of David WERNER and Philippina (Nagel) WERNER, who was born January 21, 1874. To this union 11 children were born; Henry, Edward, Fred, Emma, Lydia, Martha, Bertha, Christ, Albert, Ida, and Christina.
One of Mr. SAYLER's greatest joys was attending prayer meetings and revivals, which were held in various homes. Frederick SAYLER died January 23, 1930 and is buried in "Wishek City Cemetery". Christina SAYLER lived to be over 107 years old and died August 4, 1982.
