    Bernice B. Alden, 90, of Cheyenne passed away on July 12.
    She was born Sept. 11, 1914, in Guide Rock, Neb.
    She married John L. Alden in 1933 in Ericson, Neb.
    Bernice was a longtime resident of Cheyenne and a member of Faith United Methodist Church. She had a deep belief in God and participated in many church faith programs for many years. She was a member of the Eagles and a volunteer cookie baker for the Veterans Hospital.
    She is the beloved mother of Marlene A. and Pasquale Zumo and John L. and Kathy Alden, all of Cheyenne. She was grandmother to five wonderful grandchildren, Michael and Lori Zumo, Teresa and Ranjit Nath, Kym and Brad Freeman, all of Cheyenne, Christine and Bob Candler of Laramie and Traci and Jim Bush, all of Spangdahlem, Germany Air Force Base. Bernice was great-grandmother to eight beautiful great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, Andrew, Jennifer and Divya Nath and Sara Zumo, all of Cheyenne, Ryan and Jason Candler of Laramie, Victoria, Mickale and Patrick Bush, all of Spangdahlem. She is survived by two sisters, Goldie Taylor of Minneapolis, Kan., and Pauline Theriot of Lake Charles, La.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, John Alden in 1978; her eldest son, Billy Alden in 1951; her parents, Louie and Nellie Weigel; and three brothers, Charles Weigel, Glen Weigel and Edward Weigel.
    Services will be 2 p.m. today at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes with the Rev. Delbert Hansen officiating.
    Family will receive friends at Faith United Methodist Church immediately following the services.
    Interment will be in Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.
    Pallbearers will be Ranjit Nath, Bob Candler, Andrew Nath, Brad Freeman, Ron Miley and Mike Zumo.
    Friends may contribute to Faith United Methodist Church.

    Funeral rites for Louis Edward Weigel, who died at the Maynard hospital in Red Cloud last Monday, were conducted on Thursday from the Amack & son Funeral Home in Red Cloud at 2:00 o'clock with the Rev Leslie A Moore officiating. Interment in Guide Rock cemetery.
    Casketbearers were Louis Seeba, Louis Kiehl, Roe Simpson, Oscar Sund, George Sund and Marvin Zeigler.
    Mr and Mrs Glen Mountford sang "Rock of Ages" and "In the Garden."
    Louis Edward Weigel was born near Burr Oak, Kansas, February 9, 1883 and passes away May 25, 1953 in Red Cloud at the age of 70.
    He spent most of his life in Nebraska. He was engaged in farming until his health failed.
    He was a friend to all who knew him.
    Mr Weigel was preceded i death by one daughter, Clara, dying in infancy.
    He is survived by his wife, Mrs Nellie Weigel and six children, Charles Weigel of Lincoln, Mrs Goldie Taylor of Minneapolis, Kansas, Mrs Bernice Alden of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Glenn Weigel of Esbon, Kansas, Mrs Pauline Theriot of Creole, Louisiana and Edward Weigel of Atkinson, Nebraska, also three sisters and seven grandchildren.
    He will be missed by his family, relatives and many friends.

    Nellie Martha Weigel, daughter of Carl and Augusta Breede Schnittker, was born May 6, 1885, near Nebraska City, Nebraska. She moved to Guide Rock with her parents as a young lady. She passed away Monday, August 19, 1968 at the Sprague Nursing Home, at the age of 83 years, 3 months, and 13 days.
    She lived most of her life around Guide Rock and Red Cloud except for a few years at Ericson, Nebraska.
    In February, 1905, she was united in marriage to Louis Weigel and to this union seven children were born. One daughter, Clara, died in infancy.
    She is survived by six children; 3 sons, Charles of Lincoln, Nebraska, Glen and Edward of Atkinson, Nebraska, 3 daughters, Bernice, Mrs John Alden of Cheyenne, Wyoming; Maxine, Mrs Noble Theroit of Lake Charles, Louisiana; Goldie, Mrs Ralph Taylor of Minneapolis, Kansas; Also ten grandchildren, one sister, Mrs Lou Kiehl of Guide Rock and other relatives.

    John Weigel was born May 30, 1856, at Milwaukee, Wisconsin and departed this life July 2, 1926, age 70 years, 1 month and 3 days at his home near Guide Rock.
    He moved with his parents to Kansas in 1873 where he resided most of his life until less than two years ago when he came to live with his son. He was married April 11, 1881 at Mankato, Kansas to Hanna Sund. To which union five children were born, one son and four daughter, one daughter dying in infancy.
    The son, Louis of Guide Rock, Mrs Hoskins of Culbertson, Mrs Josie Norval of Kansas City and Miss Lulu of Guide Rock survive the father.
    There also survive two brothers, Conrad Weigel of Troublesome, Colorado and Fred Weigel of Centralia, Washington; one sister, Mrs Matilda Korb of Salem, Oregon. Fifteen grandchildren also survive.
    Funeral services were held on Sunday, July Fourth at two o'clock at his late home four miles east of Guide Rock conducted by Rev B F Eberhart of the Methodist Church. The pall bearers were Wm Kiehl, Howard Hunter, Ralph Springer, W M Creps, Glenn Birney and Louis Seebe. Interment was made in the Guide Rock Cemetery.
    The relatives can find no words to express their gratitude for the many kindnesses shown them during their deep sorrow.
    Although we are publishing the obituary of John Weigel as handed us, we take the liberty to say that the Weigel family lived for many years on the bottom farm one mile south and one and a half east of town. Mr Weigel was an expert maker of sorghum molasses. We have printed can labels for him many times. He was well thought of as a neighbor and citizen.

    Hannah Zunt was born in Germany where she lived with her parents until she was about sixteen years of age at which time they came to America and settled in Chicago, Illinois.
    After a few years in Chicago she moved with her parents to Jewell County, Kansas, where she later was united in marriage with John Weigel.
    To this union five children were born, one son and four daughters. One daughter passed away at about three years of age.
    Mr and Mrs Weigel lived in Missouri for a time and in the western states but the most of their married life was spent in Nebraska, near Guide Rock, where Mr Weigel passed away July 4, 1926.
    Following the death of her husband Mrs Weigel moved to Haigler, Nebraska, where she lived six years when she came to Ericson, where she remained until she passed away in the home of her daughter, Mrs Tillie Hoskins, Sunday morning, July 20, 1941 at 7 o'clock, age 79 years, 4 months and 23 days.
    There remains to mourn her passing one son, Louie Weigel and 3 daughters, Lula Weigel and Mrs Tillie Hoskins of Ericson, Nebraska and Mrs Andy Norval of Roscoe, Missouri, 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and many friends and acquaintances. She also leaves one sister, Mrs John Karnatz of Burr Oak, Kansas and two brothers, Fred of Superior and Charles of Guide Rock. - should be Hannah Sund not ZUNT

    John Sund was born May 17, 1832 in Germany and died November 4, 1914 at his home in Jewell County, Kansas at the age of 82 years, 5 months and 18 days. He was married to Mary Karnatz in the year 1860 and came to this country and settling in Cook County, Illinois in 1871, where they lived until 1879 when they came to Jewell County, Kansas, where they took a homestead and lived until his death. To this union were born five children, Hannah Weigel of Guide Rock, NE., Mary Indorf, Lena Karnatz, Fred Sund and Charley Sund of Burr Oak, Kansas. They with the wife, were all present at his death except Mary Indorf, who died in 1896 at St Francis, Kansas. There are 23 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren living. The deceased was a member of the German Lutheran Church in Illinois. The funeral was held at the home, Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev A E Bashford and interment made at Shaffer Cemetery.

    The funeral of Mrs Mary Sund was held last Thursday afternoon at the home of her brother, Charles Karnatz, conducted by Rev George Bancroft and burial made in the Shaffer Cemetery. Mary Karnatz was born in Germany April 25, 1829. She was united in marriage with John Sund in 1860 and came to America in 1871, settling in Cook county, Ill. They lived there until 1879, moving to Jewell County where they lived for 35 years before the death of her husband which occurred in 1914. Mrs Sund continued to live on the old homestead until within two days of her death, which occurred at the home of her only brother Charles Karnatz, on Aug 29, 1916 at the age of 87 years and 4 month. Five children were born to Mr & Mrs Sund, three girls and two boys, Hannah Weigel of Guide Rock, Mary Indorf, Lena Karnatz and Fred and Charles Sund of Burr Oak. They were all present at the time of their mothers' death except Mary Indorf, who died at St Francis, Kansas in 1896.
    There are 23 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Mrs Sund was a faithful attendant at the German services when she could attend, but could not understand any English.
