It is believed that Malala "Aly" was a full-blooded Cherokee who was a sickly child, and she was given to Rev. and Mrs. Snow just prior to her parents demise on The Trail of Tears.
She married Robert Austin about 1843. They had eight children; Lydia B. Austin Johnson Hogsden, Nancy Austin, Prudence Angelina Austin Watson, Mary Austin, Margaret Austin, Squire Austin, John C. Austin and George J. Austin.
A story has been passed down that Robert, Aly and their son John, went to pray those trapped at a Princess KY clay mine collapse when a tragic 2nd collapse occurred killing all involved. Their daughter Prudence, is said to have watched the funeral procession from her bedroom after giving birth to twin daughters.
